IDC recently released their inaugural MarketScape profiling and ranking the leading providers in the worldwide enterprise social software market. Igloo was named a Major Player and received the best overall solution capability rating from respondents.
Last month, we were talking about Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Social Software in the Workplace. Today, we switch gears with an in-depth analysis from IDC.
The IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Enterprise Social Software 2012 Vendor Analysis (doc #237336, October 2012) is the first of its kind and examines the key players in the market, their current capabilities and longer-term strategies. Seventeen companies were profiled in total, with Igloo receiving the best overall solution capability rating from respondents.
Here's a quick look at how the MarketScape shakes out. Positioning on the y-axis reflects the vendor's current capabilities and how well aligned they are to customer needs, positioning on the x-axis indicates how well the vendor's future strategy aligns with what customers will require in three to five years and market share is indicated by the size of the bubble.
IDC has a very rigorous process for assessing the market. Market weightings are based on user interviews, buyer surveys and the input of a review board of IDC experts in each market, and individual vendor scores are based on detailed surveys and interviews with the vendors and customers, publicly available information and an analysis of end-user experiences.
About IDC MarketScape: IDC MarketScape vendor analysis model is designed to provide an overview of the competitive fitness of ICT (information and communications technology) suppliers in a given market. The research methodology utilizes a rigorous scoring methodology based on both qualitative and quantitative criteria that results in a single graphical illustration of each vendor's position within a given market. IDC MarketScape provides a clear framework in which the product and service offerings, capabilities and strategies, and current and future market success factors of IT and telecommunications vendors can be meaningfully compared. The framework also provides technology buyers with a 360-degree assessment of the strengths and weaknesses of current and prospective vendors.
